Indication

Alcet Oral Solution is used in adults and in children (aged 2 years or above) to treat symptoms associated with:

• Chronic Idiopathic Urticaria (severe skin rash with reddish raised patches and itching)

Pharmacology

Levocetirizine Dihydrochloride is the active ingredient in this formulation. It is the levorotatory (Levo) isomer of cetirizine. Levocetirizine is a newer, highly effective, and well-tolerated nonsedating antihistamine with potent antiallergic properties. It has a twofold higher affinity for H1 receptors compared to cetirizine. Levocetirizine exhibits both rapid and long-acting action, allowing for once-daily administration.

Levocetirizine selectively competes with histamine for H1-receptor sites on effector cells in the gastrointestinal tract, blood vessels, and respiratory tract. • For children 6 to 11 years of age, the recommended dosage is 2.5 mg (1/2 tablet or 1 teaspoon of oral solution) once daily.
• For children 6 months to 5 years of age, the suggested dosage is 1.25 mg (1/2 teaspoon of oral solution) once daily.
